Weekend Family Matinee Program
The Weekend Family Matinee Program is part of a nationwide program that is specifically focused on charitable giving, promoting character-based education and teaching good citizenship to children through the enjoyment of movies. The program accomplishes these tasks in addition to providing greatly needed resources for local schools.

This program is a partnership between education, the schools, and film producers to strengthen the community and provide families with movies that teach strong moral values in a fun and entertaining way. In the process, it raises money and benefits teachers, students, and schools.

The Weekend Family Matinee Program is brought to various communities based largely on the unwavering commitment and support of local theatre owners. Because of their support, there are now theater screens dedicated to supporting movies that contain no graphic violence, sexual content, vulgarity or profanity. Of the top grossing movies that were rated by the MPAA from 1996 through 2005, only 4% received a G rating. This statistic makes it clear that content that promotes good values are missing from the movies that are currently being produced in Hollywood.

While the Weekend Family Matinee Program raises money for local schools, it does much more to help the area. The program encourages good character-driven values, brings families closer together through the messages contained within its movies, and strives to enhance civility within the community. By participating in the program, the community will be able to contribute to local schools while enjoying wholesome family entertainment. $5 of the $10 ticket price to see all four movies will go directly to the local schools in the area where the program is being run. If the program is being run in you’re area, families may purchase the passes online at www.visiplex.net.

The program consists of four (4) new G rated family movies, one of which will play every weekend for a year. Each of the shows will run consecutively for 10 weeks with a 3 week repeat run in the summer to make sure every one who wants to attend has that opportunity.

The first of the four titles is Jumping for Joy. It teaches about courage and teamwork and tells the story of Bobbie Dean, a girl who gets to live her dream in 1964 when she is mistaken for a boy and asked to play on a boys' basketball team. As Bobbie learns that the most important part of winning is believing in yourself, viewers will be refreshed to see a film made with families and their values in mind. Descriptions of the other movies in the series can be found on the Visiplex website www.visiplex.net.

Corporations for Character calls families in the area to inform them about the fundraising program. “We at the MAR Theatre feel that the Weekend Family Matinee Program can have a positive impact on our community. It will raise funds for enhancing education in our schools, while offering you a great movie experience. Please support our effort to raise funds for our schools and bring quality, affordable, family entertainment to the area”, says Denise Issert, a Theatre owner.
